… a gaggle of ducks …
This is a preparatory sketch for STACK-A-DUCKS, itself a Maquette for the FLYING YATTERDUCKS. The piece is the embodiment of a ‘tribe’ of ducks who inhabit the pond in the garden where the sculpture lives.
The ‘stack’ is based loosely on a childhood game. “The Flying Zucchini Brothers” was the game we used to play, where we would climb ineptly on each other’s shoulders - with much noise and waving of arms (and very little skill) in emulation of some absurd acrobats we had once see at the circus.
These ducks all have very particular characters, and their solemnity is so comical.
The piece creates an amusing and slightly frenetic kind of totem pole.
